How is a law passed in the U.S. Congress?
Social Studies, K-12 (Backbone Lesson)
This is a "backbone" lesson for students to learn about how a law is passed. There are only a few learning activities in the lesson Roadmap. The intent is for a teacher to modify the lesson to fit the needs of her/his classroom. For example, a high school teacher might include more text-based materials, while an elementary school teacher might include more video based materials. Feel free to add new learning activities!

Thermal Energy Lesson Roadmap (Examples of Student Artifacts)
Science, Middle School
This Roadmap is a middle school lesson dealing with issues in Thermal Energy. It took 3 class periods (45 minutes/period) for the students to engage in all the activities. The lesson directs students to create artifacts, e.g., animations. All the artifact creation activities are collaborative. Group size for this lesson was 3 students/group. (This version of the Thermal Energy Lesson Roadmap was used in a 6th grade classroom. Clicking on the nodes in the Roadmap that specify using Collabrify apps will actually open up the apps inside sample student documents. We felt that it might be interesting to educators to see what students actually do when enacting a lesson Roadmap. The artifacts created, for example, in Collabrify Flipbook, were done collaboratively, i.e., students in the classroom were organized into 3 students per team. Please, feel free to play the animations, for example, about Conduction or Radiation.)
